I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus and count them but rubbish.

Non-Essentials Kill Churches

John Dobbs covers the issue of non-essentials in the church. In his blog entry Rule Confusion he addresses the problem of people making things scriptural demands that are not there.

I would go a step further and say that non-essentials have killed many good churches and stifled the work of the Lord.

Many become so focused on the things that should be done this way or that. Should placement of items be placed here or there. Those things begin to be the focus of the church then it suffers.

John does not say it but I think it is not a stretch to say that once this focus on “things” becomes so strong then it is idolatry. We know how God feels about that. There should be nothing that takes the place of God or his purpose that was commissioned to us to reach the lost for Jesus Christ.

I encourage you to read John’s article b/c he is right and many churches suffer at the hands of the few who have lost focus on the Lord.

  1. Thanks for the encouragement Jason. I appreciate it!

  2. John you deserve it. You are saying what many ministers are struggling with in American Churches. If it were not a problem there might be revival.
